Why we ask which neighborhood, not just which city
The 37138 address footprint is a great deal larger than the community most people picture. It reaches from Rayon City in the crook of the Cumberland bend, south past Lakewood and Old Hickory Boulevard, and east along the lake edge into Wilson County. Two people can both give an Old Hickory address and live twenty minutes apart.
More to the point, they will have completely different stumps. A 1918 water oak in a four-foot side gap on Clarke Street and a 1990s Bradford pear in a sidewalk strip on Cascade Drive share a zip code and nothing else. Naming the neighborhood rather than the city gets you a real price faster, because access and species are usually the whole answer.
How the map runs from the Village outward
We are based in the Village, so the inner ring is quick: Waterford at three minutes, Rayon City and Swinging Bridge Heights at four, the rowhouses off Robinson Road at five. Short-notice slots and same-week fits happen most often in that ring.
The middle band runs six to nine minutes - Hadley Bend, Lakewood, Brandywine Farms, Brandywine Pointe, Lakewood Heights and Kenwood Estates. Normal scheduling there, three to five working days for a routine grind. Merritt Downs and Shiloh Park sit at roughly twelve minutes on the far side, and while we will come out for a single stump, those jobs book a little further ahead and we prefer to pair them with another address nearby. Nobody pays a travel surcharge on any of it. The price follows the stump, not the odometer.
Old core, mid-century, and everything built since 2018
Three eras, three different problems. Inside the pre-1946 DuPont grid the constraint is access and finish: narrow side gaps, shallow yards, brick walks and a streetscape people care about. The stumps there are the 1918 planting cohort reaching the end of its life together.
The 1950s through 1990s belt - Lakewood, Kenwood Estates, Lakewood Heights, Merritt Downs, Shiloh Park - is about mass plantings failing on schedule and utility records that are patchy, Lakewood's especially.
